Lately, I have been really into the casual look especially for this Spring. With a hectic schedule and jammed pack course load going straight into Summer, I find myself looking towards a more fuss-free wardrobe. Call it urban wear or chic street wear, I call it my new obsession, basic tees ( be it catchy t-shirts from Junk Food or artist inspired tees by Tank Theory)!! The way to make a t-shirt fabulous and chic is pairing it accordingly- sexy tight skinny jeans or leggings to complement the loose fitting tee and of course a killer pair of heels!) * Add in a funky scarf or blazer for those chilly Spring Nights!

John Galliano created a show stealer in a BIG way!

Gigantic Combed Back Hair - Dramatic Eyes - Fabulous HeadWear

But, More than anything - if you take away the opulent accessories- you have a completely wearable collection!! Galliano did a phenomenal job transitioning from couture to ready to wear. I could see myself wearing every piece! The shapes were a bit boxy, yet still flattering on the models- as well as the every day woman. Its very Jackie O esque (the Kennedy era) and extremely representative of the 60s style - lovely suiting and dresses , adorned with statement making hats and gloves! *Side Note: Channeling Mrs. Robinson Galliano ended the show by walking out to the song!! Brilliant <3>

Chanel 2008 RTW Line drew yawns from me!!

I absolutely adore Chanel, but I'm getting tired of the tweed skirt suit. It can only be done in some many ways. Which is what really disappointed me because up until almost the 20th look it was skirt suits. UGH! I give kudos to the guy designs, fresh touch when most designers do not show for men on the runway. Once the tweed suits and men's looks were off the runway...more innovative designs perspired. I am being absolutely generous when I say that! Personally, I felt the looks to be boring and the black circle cut out designs...just not flattering for a ready to wear line! For Chanel it was CHANEL, Karl Lagerfield played up the trends in the true Coco fashion - You cannot deny him that!

Nonetheless, it is Chanel, so I did like some things: Here they are...

Plaids been big, especially this fall ... seen on tons of people- shirts, jackets, coats, even pants. The list goes on and on of plaid prints. Unfortunately, the trend is tired and needs a rest. So REFRAIN FROM wearing plaids after this winter...i'd like to see minimal Scottish traits this Spring (no offense). so do what you can and avoid Cosmo's fashion tip!!

As the Tents opened early Sunday morning, starlets awaited front row for the much anticipated line from Herve Leger designed by Max Azria! Herve Leger is famously known for its iconic sexy staple....THE BANDAGE DRESS!!!!!! The house established in 1985, bringing life to the Egyptian inspired, ultra sexy dress. In 1998 Max Azria acquired the fashion house and in the recent year has revived the brand back to its sizzling status it once was.

Now as the curtains unveiled, the Fall 2008 line is a classic revival of the brand and the collection is simply Fabulous!!!! I'm absolutely infatuated with every piece that walked down the runway. I would've liked less feathers and less of a moulin rouge vibe, at times. Nonetheless, Max Azria did a seamless job updating the iconic bandage dress. Providing evidence that the best way to update a classic is by doing little to it!! Genius!!!!!!! He simply added some beads, feathers, toyed with fabrics, and scribble like appliqués to give a minimalist of updates.

First Look: Marc Jacobs Fall RTW 2008

At 7:17 the show started with Marc Jacobs addressing the audience with a "We're ready!" Quite shocking for a designer who is almost as well known for his designs as being infamously late to start his runway- and I'm talking hours late. Nevertheless, the show began in a NYC club scene, something close to home for MJ, with lackluster lighting and Sonic Youth preforming in the background. Unfortunately, the lighting lent no greater appeal to the designs; not much was to be said about the clothes adorning the models on the runway.
The collection seemed slightly uninspired and dull. The majority of the color pallette was grey, black, cream, and a pepto bismol pink. The Fall RTW line was overrun by hefty coats and jackets, that left the models shapeless - the coats belts were down to the hips (not flattering for the average figure). Nonetheless, Marc Jacobs announced "I really wasn't very inspired this season. I just live my life." Such attitude prevailed through his designs. He is just living his life at the moment, after a world wind year, it is beginning to calm down and settle (alike his collection this season!).
The line seems to bring us back to NYC in the 1980s, MJ's years. With big ostentatiously braided headbands and tons of grey and pastels, and a very very relaxed shape. But was the shape to relaxed? I think so, the designs will be unflattering to most women, hence it being a non sensible Ready to Wear line - the clothes were classics but a little to masculine. Marc Jacobs vague words describe the line as "Calm. Glamour. Casual. Beautiful women." The sexless and not so fabulous line leaves much to the imagination. Maybe next season MJ

Diane von Furstenberg Fall 2008 ready-to-wear line channeled European classics of the 1940s. Her fall line was well done; her vision led her to impeccable mixtures of textures and fabrics. The warmth of sweaters adorned the light silk and satins that subscribed to her runway.

Surprisingly, unlike her past runway shows dresses (the trademark staple: Wrap Dress!!) did not play the major role of the line. Instead separates dominated her runway. As models walked down the tent of Byrant Park it was quite apparent DVB did a fabulous job channeling the new trend of the fall: sportswear! The show was great, the gloves and jackets simply lovely!!

P.S. BELTS!!! They are huge this coming Fall to cinch you at your natural waist!!

Monumental Impact: Voila Chanel

Style, fashion, and design play a pertinent role in architecture and monuments. Such creative visions lead the way to the innovative designs of architects and inspiring works throughout cities and countries. Similarly, most designers seek vision and innovation too. During Paris Fashion Week such was apparent, as Karl Lagerfield erected a 75 foot Chanel Cardigan Jacket (as pictured at left) at the Grand Palais.

The Chanel Cardigan Jacket is the Chanel staple. Furthermore, it is the iconic to fashion! Coco Chanel's vision, the Chanel uniform, has lasted decades far after her death.

Karl Lagerfield's intentions were quite touching and symbolic. The cardigan jacket has lasted years of ever changing styles, trends, and fads; therefore it is the foundation of Chanel's brand and design. Through the popularity and eternal power the Coco's design many more styles have emerged. Hence, the Cardigan Jacket is the hub of power for Chanel!

Models entered the runway through a flap in the jacket. Lagerfield's inspiration for this collections was shells, he reminsiced of the time the idea surfaced, he opening a book titled "Coquillages" was enchanted the beauty of shells: there size, texture, design, spirals, ridges, edges, and intricacy. His inspiration is prevalent on the models, as they model styles on classic Chanel tweeding, alongside shell spirals, ridges, and edges.

It is Milan Fashion Week Everyone!!! And what is a Fashion Show without some hot and heavy DRAMA .... not much?! Well, at the Versace show this week drama ensued, making headlines- for not just an impressive collection-but for snubbing Tommy Fazio!

Who is Tommy Fazio? Some who are not fanatical fans of the luxe department store staple of NYC -> Bergdorf Goodman-may be unaware of the man who caused headlines. Tommy Fazio is the men's fashion director for Bergdorf, responsible for approving the men's collections and designers that will dress the store each season. YIKES!!! Seems like Versace may not get much space at Bergdorf this year, or at least not in the men's department.

Play by Play Action of What Ensued at the Versace Show: Unfortunately, Diva Beyonce's bodyguard had no seat at the fashion show!!! Oh No! Please because celebrity bodygaurds should have front-row seats at all Milan shows?? - god forbid, a model gets hungry and jumps an American celebrity!!! So, assuming that no one recognized who Tommy Fazio was they asked him for his seat. Wow, so a Bergdorf fashion director was snubbed for an overweight bodygaurd. SAD!! As you can imagine, Fazio was furious. . . leaving the show in a fury, stating "Fine - I don't stand at shows, so please escort me to the door." He left the show and canceled his post show appointment with Versace. [[Ouchhh]] DRAMAAA <33>

Once an intimidated art enthusiast, Marc Jacobs has furnished an art fascination over the last five years. Starting with his first piece, an oil painting of a young dark haired woman by Karen Kiliminck, the fashion designer is since unable to control his urge and passion for art! And his apartment, located in the beautifully romantic Paris personifies his unique love for all things creative.
Yet, his joy for art was staggered by his growing fear, "I had in my mind that only incredibly grand, extremely wealthy people lived with art of any sort," Jacobs says about his intimidation of fine art. Nordstrom, a Seattle based department store has its eyes on a new location in a new city. Shockingly, Nordstrom, a well-known and very popular retail shop of over 500 Brand Names does not have a store in Manhattan, the fashion capital. (The closest locations are in Garden City, NY and New Jersey!) So the Manhattanites are talking and urging the retail wonder to set a flagship in NYC.

The buzz is that Nordstrom Inc. purchased a non binding letter of intent on the former Drake Hotel. Drake Hotel is situated on the corner of Park Ave and 56th Street, a fabulous spot for a hot department store! Nothing is secured or final, however, but there is hope Nordstrom will be coming to the city of lights soon. I'll keep my fingers crossed...

Walking into Cipriani 42 Wednesday, Halloween night was like a who-who's of fashion, with a twist. The who-who's weren't really- rather they were masquerading as others with fabulously over the top costumes and outfits. My favorite, in particular, was the host of this grand and eloborate costume ball- Mr. Roberto Cavalli- in the flesh as Karl Lagerfield!! It was impeccably execueted rendition of the fashion icon. Cavalli was adorned in the signature motorcycle gloves, black tie, and dark shades. The designer was quoted as saying, "I wanted to go as someone from the world of fashion," with a shrug, after directing a slew of well-wishers to kiss his hand, on which he wore a copy of the French couturier's fingerless glove. Amidst chaos, couture frocks, models, and most importantly talented designers’ renditions for Paris Fashion Week, one headline seemed to outshine all of Paris! The headline materialized after a Sunday night Louis Vuitton Spring 2008 collection. A recently rehabbed, Marc Jacobs came down the runaway for the finale bow- in front of his boss at LVMH, numerous editors, and several celebrities- only not taking his bow instead sticking his tongue out in retaliation of International Herald Tribune fashion critic Suzy Menkes.

The conflict began when Suzy Menkes critzied Marc Jacobs’s Marc Jacob Spring 2008 collection as “a bad, sad show”, further feeding the fire by issuing a statement blaming designs such as Marc’s to symbolize “everything that is wrong with current fashion." Ouch! So you could imagine how any designer would feel after such comments. His refute, however immature, was to gesture Suzy with a slight slip of the tongue. Hell it was a full out bashing to her face, who are we kidding?

Bottom Line: No one can argue Marc Jacobs to be one the most influential and inspiring American designers of the moment, yet his recent erratic and bizarre behavior has been landing him straight on tabloid front covers. Not good business, good publicity, but not fabulous for a designer who wants to be taken seriously. If anything his latest act will only further soil his name and brand! If only his personal life could be has well conceived has his fashion lines!

As Fall Fashions Rush Into the Department Stores, Celebrity Designers are Pushing to sell their own Designs.

Gwen Stefani opened the doors for the influx of "designers" banking on their celebrity fame and name. After Stefani's urban sport line Harajuku Lovers and higher end brand L.A.M.B others soon began to follow. From Sarah Jessica Parker low priced Bitten and Kate Moss's cheap designs for Topshop- to Sienna Miller's high end line Twenty8Twelve.

However, the question that remains fizzling long after the debut of their lines, is if these Celebs have what it takes to last and sell in the Fashion House?

Bitten_Sarah Jessica Parker's line is extremely cheap and too casual, hence its accessibility to be bargain prices. Cheap fabrics and simple designs.

L.A.M.B_Gwen Stefani *the bottom lime: chic, eccentric, and fun for an expensive price

Twenty8Twelve_Sienna Miller's uber stylish fashion line incorporating fresh new silhouettes through rich fabrics and lusty metallics. But, for a high price, in the high hundreds and up!!! I'm not sure I'd pay half a grand for a 50's inspired housewife frock from a designer who most likely does not dress herself!!

Its been on my mind, some fashion Don'ts at clubs and lounges, so its time to share in a little segment I call "Please Refrain From Wearing..."

Don'ts of the NYC club scene; you will be much better off and may not have to wonder why you were rejected from the door..so please refrain from wearing
-flip flops
-flats (unless super chic)
-ripped up jeans
-marciano bras (they never were hott)
-knock offs
-sunglasses!!!!!
-back cleavage
-trashy dresses
-muffin tops
-guidette anything
-sweat bands
-tasteless outfits
-gigantic purses (they just take up too much space in an already crowded club)
*alternative- a cute clutch, hello?
